Introduction: Spiritual care is one of the main components of holistic nursing that can help improve patients' health. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the spiritual care competence of nurses working at Zahedan University of Medical Sciences.
Methods: The present study is a descriptive-analytical study conducted on 120 nurses working in hospitals affiliated with Zahedan University of Medical Sciences, who were selected through systematic random stratified sampling method in 1403. The data collection tool was the Spiritual Care Competency Scale of Van Leeuwen and Kasuller(2004). Data analysis was performed using SPSS22 software and descriptive and analytical statistics.
Results: The results of the present study showed that the average score of nurses' spiritual care competence was 64.80 ± 15.57, which indicates that the level of nurses' spiritual care competence was average.
Conclusion: The findings of the present study showed that the nurses participating in the study do not have the appropriate professional qualifications in providing spiritual care and have not received training in this field. Therefore, strengthening the moral and spiritual foundations of nurses, developing educational programs and content in the field of spiritual care, and applying appropriate educational strategies by nursing managers can improve the provision of spiritual care among nurses.
