Patient safety is a fundamental pillar of healthcare quality that has received significant attention in recent years. Despite extensive efforts to improve the quality of healthcare services, preventable harm to patients remains a global challenge. One of the key factors in reducing such harm is the active involvement of patients and their families in the healthcare process. The World Health Organization and other international bodies have implemented programs to promote the participation of patients and their caregivers in enhancing patient safety. This paper explores the importance of patient and family involvement in patient safety, effective strategies in this area, and challenges ahead.
