Introduction: Panel size refers to the number of patients who are regularly under the care of a full-time family physician in a given period of time. Our aim in this study is to estimate the population covered by each family physician in each province.
Methods: First, the population of each province by age and sex groups was extracted from the population and housing data of the year 2015 on the website of the Statistics Center, then by reviewing the literature, the number of visits attributed to each group was taken into account, finally, taking into account the number of working hours and duration During each visit, we calculated panel size under different scenarios.
Results: The findings of our study indicate that the average population attributable to each doctor in the country is 1,741 people, and the provinces of Gilan, Mazandaran, and Tehran need a smaller panel size with 1,581, 1,641, and 1,668 people, respectively.
Conclusion: Considering the need to implement the family physician program and the existence of information deficiencies, it is recommended that the program be implemented on a smaller scale first.
